We could have lunch in Simply Italian set within 150 meters. We liked the fact that we chose mermaid inn.

The atmosphere and ambiance is attractive and the old town is interesting

Great historic building in the hart of Rye adapted as a comfortble hotel

  • 6.6
    Nice

Everything except the room, Very poor , could not stand in bath!

  • 7.4
    Very good

Seeped in history, very romantic setting. Johnny Depp slept in my bed! (apparently!) Central to the town of Rye.. easy to access without use of car. Friendly staff who quickly dealt with any requests. Excellent breakfast.

The hotel was very expensive. The bathroom in our room had a hand held shower, over a high bath which made it difficult to wash, and there was no shower curtain or screen so the bathroom got wet. The washbasin was in the room, not in the bathroom and the hairdryer was very ineffective. There was a smoking area right under our window which meant that we needed to keep it closed when we would have preferred it open. We had to order and collect our own drinks from the bar when sitting on the patio outside.. waiter service would have been more in keeping with the prices we were paying.

    Perfect

A uniquely historic hotel on the most picturesque street in Rye. We were grateful for the chance to stay in such a rare and beautiful building. The staff were very friendly and helpful (and great with our three year old even though there weren't many children in evidence), happily being disturbed from their work to tell us about the history of the hotel, show us the Priest Hole in the fireplace and talk about local beaches and places of interest.

    Perfect

The location and history of the hotel made our short break so interesting. We loved the tapestries, paintings, the fireplaces, the panelled wood and the antique furniture, all of which created such a wonderful atmosphere. We had a super evening meal and a very good breakfast and found all of the staff charming. The hotel had been recommended to us by several friends and members of our family and it certainly didn't disappoint.

    Perfect

The place oozes charm. Historical Old England in bucket loads

Disliked energy saving bulbs in Kingslyn, sorry but there are soft glow bulbs and lamp-shades which can afford the room the charm. Horrendous!

    Perfect

The feeling of an old building was attractive. This in no way detracted from the comfort experienced. We particularly liked the table service which made you feel special.

We did miss not having a shower in the bathroom. The hand held spray is not the same

  • 7.8
    Very good

The moment you stepped in the door you were transformed back to the middle ages. The history of the building just hits you as you are guided to your room. The suttle way the modern bathroom is made to feel part of the room. Fantastic!

If I had to criticize anything it would be that there was not a shower curtain over the bath.

myself mother and daughter love staying here, feel so at home. we hope to be back very soon, maybe after christmas.

    Great

The staff and customer service were top class. The hotel is very well presented and in keeping with the location. The restaurant was excellent in it's menu and preparation. The cost of the room, however, I found to be a little on the dear side when considering room size and facilities.

Room size and facilities for a 'Superior Double'. The room was nice but not superior.

    Perfect

History of hotel and looking around the old town of Rye

  • 7.4
    Very good

excellent staff and really friendly locals, food was excellent too

access to the hotel by car is difficult and its not easy to navigate around Rye directions could have been better

  • 9.2
    Perfect

Cosy, spotless, well appointed rooms, with a sense of history, centrally located in the prettiest street in Rye.

Bar food could have been better, considering the reputation of the main restaurant.
